The Ministry to Youth at St. Bart's seeks to help students come into direct contact with the Risen Lord Jesus. We place a strong emphasis on understanding the Word of God especially in how it relates to our lives. We also seek to engage our hearts and minds in worship and prayer. We are passionate about exploring the teachings of the Church and seeking to understand and defend these teachings. We try to accomplish all of these things in an environment that is fun and youth friendly.
Come discover and share the love of Jesus with us here at St. Bart's!
We are a parish that seeks to implement the US Bishops document on Youth Ministry "Renewing the Vision : A framework for Catholic Youth Ministry"
What follows is a brief summery of the main points of the document. The following goals and components are the guiding force behind the ministry to Students at St. Bart's.
Three equally important goals guide the Church's ministry with adolescents. These goals state what it means to respond to the needs of young people and to involve young people in sharing their unique gifts with the larger community. They express the Church's focus for ministry with adolescents, while encouraging local parishes to creativity develop the programs, activities, and strategies to reach these goals.
To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Ministry with adolescents helps young people learn what it means to follow Jesus Christ and to live as his disciples today, empowering them to serve others and to work toward a world built on the vision and values of the reign of God. All ministry with adolescents must be directed toward presenting young people with the Good News of Jesus Christ and inviting and challenging them to become his disciples.
To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Young people experience the Catholic community of faith at home, in the parish (especially in youth ministry programs), and in other organizations serving youth. Ministry with adolescents recognizes the importance of each of these faith communities in helping young people grow in faith as they experience life in community and actively participate in the mission of Jesus Christ and his Church.
To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Ministry with adolescents promotes the growth of healthy, competent, caring, and faith-filled Catholic young people. The Church is concerned for the whole person, addressing the young people's spiritual needs in the context of his or her whole life. Ministry with adolescents fosters positive adolescent development and growth in both Christian discipleship and Catholic identity.
We seek to achieve these goals through the following eight components:
The Ministry of Advocacy That is we seek to stand with and in support of young people and encourage their participation in the life of the church.
The Ministry of Catechesis We seek to train young people in the basics of the Catholic faith including, Scripture, The Catechism of the Catholic Church, morality, and most importantly how to incorporate these teachings into their own personal relationship with Jesus.
The Ministry of Community Life We help young people grow in their relating to the community. We foster skills in developing good friendships and maintaining quality family relationships. We also offer and equip the students opportunities to be involved in all aspects of community life.
The Ministry of Evangelization We proclaim the Good News to young people and we help them begin to understand how this news has impacted their lives. We also help them develop the skill of sharing their faith through words and deeds with their friends and family.
The Ministry of Justice and Service We use the message of Jesus to explain the importance of seeking Justice and doing service. We offer opportunities for youth to serve in the community and in their families.
The Ministry of Leadership Development Students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by participating on various leadership teams in the course of their time at St. Bart's.
The Ministry of Pastoral Care We seek to develops the life skills of adolescents, such as relationship building, assertiveness, decision making, and planning. We seek to support young people and their families - especially those experiencing divorce, separation, or family problems.
The Ministry of Prayer and Worship We help the students enter into their relationship with Jesus by exposing them to various settings of prayer and worship. Including rock'in worship, quiet reflection, retreats, meditation and shared prayer.
